    We’re open!

After 18 months with the Hall closed, we were so happy to welcome our first event yesterday: a great children’s birthday party complete with bouncy castle.

And our regular groups are starting up over the next week or two: yoga, pilates, badminton, Local History…and coming soon, the Cranborne Craft Cafe.

It’s been a real community effort to get here so thank you to everyone who’s helped. Watch this space for details of our re-opening party.

What’s coming up at the Hall

Remember: it’s the Cranborne Duck Race on Saturday 26th April. This is always a brilliant community event and it’s a really important fundraiser for our First School, so please show your support.

The Village Hall will be open with lots of stalls and refreshments. And it’ll be a chance for you to find out what’s happening as we re-open.

We’ll have lots of information about our regular activities, including badminton, yoga, pilates, Cranborne Local History Society and the Cranborne Craft Café (more news to come!). And we’ll have details on events coming up including our re-opening party on Friday May 9th.

And if you have any ideas for ‘Clubs for Cranborne’, then get in touch or come and see us on the 26th.

    Hope to see you there.

What a night! The Great Big Cranborne Quiz was a huge success!

What a night! The Great Big Cranborne Quiz was a huge success, with 52 people taking part and a very long reserve list. All our magic number squares sold, with H taking the £100 cash prize.

In quiz terms, the winning team was “Whips and Levels” from Bellows Cross/Boveridge, with “The JERSies from Penny’s Mead in second place.

Here are the winners with their trophy and cheese box, both generously donated by The Book & Bucket Cheese Company.

An amazing £430 was raised for Village Hall funds. Many thanks to the Sheaf of Arrows for their support. The next Great Big Cranborne Quiz will be at the Village Hall on September 13th, so we should be able to fit everyone in. And Annie Noble and family are returning as quizmasters after a gap of over 10 years. So put the date in your diaries!

Good News – the new charity has been set up!

The charity which hopes to run the village hall in the future has now been set up with Anna McElwaine as chair and Claire Whitehead, Kathy Cleary and Mark Farmer as trustees. We are called: Cecil Memorial Hall Cranborne 2024.

Conversations to change the day to day ownership of the hall from the Parish Council – to Cranborne Estate are ongoing.

It is the hope that the hall will reopen to be run by the new charity on completion of these negotiations and the agreement and completion of a lease from the Estate to the new CIO.

We will keep you informed of our progress towards the reopening of the hall.

What a great day at the Boveridge College Christmas Fayre!

Wow. Just Wow. What a great day we had at the Christmas Fayre at Boveridge College last weekend. The sun came out and our raffle raised a TOTALLY FANTASTIC £866..

Big, sincere thanks to Odette Osborne and her team at Boveridge College for inviting us along to join in with the students and other stallholders.

Big thanks also to our supporters who donated so generously towards the prizes… and of course to the hardworking gang of tickets elves who gave up their time over the weekend to make the whole thing so successful. We simply could not have done it without you.

We hope that our Charity Commission application will be approved early in the new Year and we are already thinking about our events calendar for 2025… Please do let us know what you would like to see here in your village…and get in touch if you can spare even an hour or two to help organise

In the meantime, we wish you a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year..!

    Anna, Kathy, Claire and Mark
