    Inn Echo Friday 13th November

    This is going to be a real treat. The wonderful Inn Echo, a three-piece group hailing from Prince Edward Island, Canada, will be bringing their cinematic, high-energy sound rooted in Celtic traditions, blending fierce fiddle, grooving guitar and soaring cello with undeniable chemistry. Brought to us by Artsreach, it should be another night to remember at Cranborne Village Hall.

    Curious Creatures Sunday October 25th

    The weird and wonderful world of the fantastic Squashbox Theatre will be back in Cranborne on Sunday October 25th, courtesy of Artsreach. Meet creatures of all shapes and sizes, including performing fleas, skateboarding snails and gymnastic gerbils. Learn how animals evolved and how they can help us learn more about ourselves. Their Curious Creatures puppet show is a mix of comedy, slapstick and live music plus lots of amazing natural history facts: there’s something for everyone.

    The performance starts at 3pm and lasts around 50 minutes. It’s suitable for children aged 5+ and their grown-ups. Tickets are £8 for adults, £6 under 18s, £24 for a family. Afterwards there is a puppet-making workshop at £4 (booking essential). Refreshments will be available.     The Great Big Cranborne Quiz Saturday 10th October

    You can now book your table for the Great Big Cranborne Quiz. Annie has spent her summer putting together her normal fiendish questions ready for the big event of the year. Who will win the coveted Book & Bucket Cheese Board trophy – and most importantly have the bragging rights for 12 months? 

    The details are as always: teams of four (maximum); £40 per team entry to include a spectacular ploughman’s supper; doors open at 6.30pm for a prompt start at 7.30pm; the bar will be open; and it would be much appreciated if every team could bring a raffle prize.     The Cranborne Show Saturday 19th September

    How long are your runner beans? How tasty is your chutney? It’s time to start planning your entries for The Cranborne Show, which will take place in the Village Hall on Saturday 19th September. Local experts have been persuaded to be judges, and we’ve already heard of people bottling, preserving and planting in anticipation.

    We’ve now chosen the categories which are within the following areas:

    Produce: vegetables, fruit, flowers

    Baking: cakes, bread, savoury nibbles

    Preserves: jam, marmalade, honey, chutney

    Alcohol: beer, cider, wine, flavoured spirits

    Art: painting, photography

    Crafts: knitting, crochet, embroidery/cross stitch, miscellaneous

    Children: miniature garden, vegetable animal, photography, painting.

    Entries for adults are 50p each with a cap at £5; children’s entries are free.

    Meditation & mindfulness workshop Saturday 22nd August

    Here’s something to help with the stresses and strains of everyday life. A wonderful Meditation, Mindfulness & Energy Practice Workshop is coming to Cranborne Village Hall on Saturday 22nd August.

    Run by Simon Granell, a highly-experienced teach of mindfulness & meditation, it will explore tools for managing daily stress and anxiety. It’s all designed to help meet life’s ups and downs with a bit more patience and ease.

    The workshop runs from 10am until 1pm and it costs £25. You need to wear something comfortable and you can bring a mat or cushion if you have one. For more details and to book your place, contact Simon on simongranell@me.com

    Alice in Wonderland Wednesday 12th August

    Here’s something for all the family: for our next Artsreach performance, on Wednesday 12th August the wonderful Treehouse Theatre are bringing their magical Alice in Wonderland show to Cranborne Village Hall – and you can play a part on stage if you want to! 

    Follow Alice on a madcap adventure to a land of peculiar creatures and chaotic fun in this family-friendly summer panto. Alice meets a very late White Rabbit, gets caught up in a crazy tea party, and plays a game of croquet with a tyrannical Queen – but will she ever find her way home? Expect a colourful and interactive show filled with excitement, laughter and live music. It’s suitable for ages 4+.

    This is a performance with a difference though: up to 30 audience members can play a small part in the show! There’s also plenty for the rest of the audience to join in with. The show will start at 3pm, but if you’d like to be in it then you need to be there at 2.30pm. Tickets are £8 for adults, £6 for children and £24 for a family.     Cream Tea Concert Sunday 21st June

    We’ve got something a bit different coming up. The wonderful Wessex Folk Orchestra will be coming to Cranborne Village Hall on Sunday 21st June, 3pm – 5pm, to play their sometimes lively, sometimes moving country dance tunes. Their entertaining repertoire includes Playford’s Compleat Dance collection 1651-1728, the Thomas Hardy family tunebook, Jane Austen’s family tunebook and some newly-composed tunes. They are a delight!

    We’ll be serving traditional cream teas during the performance – home made scones, clotted cream and jam, with pots of tea. It promises to be a lovely afternoon. Pre-booked teas are £7, or some will be available for £9 on the day – so please pre-order to avoid disappointment.

    Diyet & The Love Soldiers Friday 15th May

    Our next Artsreach performance is on Friday 15th May, when Diyet & The Love Soldiers come to Cranborne.

    Diyet was born in a tent and spent her childhood on the ancestral lands of the Kluane First Nation people in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Her music combines country, folk, roots and traditional with catchy melodies and stories deeply rooted in her indigenous world view and northern life. Playing bass guitar, she sings in both English and her traditional language, Southern Tutchone. She is backed by The Love Soldiers: her husband and collaborator Robert van Lieshout (acoustic guitar, drums & percussion) and Bob Hamilton (electric guitar, pedal steel & mandolin).

    Swing from Paris in Cranborne Friday 20th March

    We’ve got an evening of fabulous Parisian-flavoured music at Cranborne Village Hall next week. Swing from Paris is an all-string jazz quartet inspired by the music of the 30s, 40s and 50s, So if you like a bit of Artie Shaw, Django Reinhart or Stéphane Grappelli, this is right up your ‘rue’.

    It’s all happening on Friday 20th March at Cranborne Village Hall. The performance starts at 7.30pm. Tickets, which are £13, £6 under 18s, £36 for a family, are available from www.artsreach.co.uk or by calling Alison Lawson on 01725 517028. 

    We’re offering a choice of delicious French-themed food for those who would like to eat with us.     Sunday 8th March is Film Night at the Village Hall!

    A thrilling action-packed romp with comedy, hints of romance and a pair of marvellously matched stars, The Fall Guy has been described as “a fizzy, funny, convincingly romantic delight, a tribute to the craft of making big movies with big stunts that is heartfelt in its appreciation without taking itself too seriously”.

    Doors and bar open at 18.00 and the film starts at 18.30. Tickets are £5 on the door.
